- As they say, "expect the best but prepare for the worst"... as most people
- around here on c.s.a.m, I feel REVULSION every time I evaluate the
- situation of the Amiga and the possibility that someday I'll need to work
- in a GatesBox. My main job is doing 3D animation and video graphics, and
- simply put, I'd rather give that up and do DTP on the Mac for a living
- than consider plunging into the depths of W95/IRQ-bus conflicts/3D studio
- black magic. Right now I'm using ShapeShifter, why? because to keep
- competitive on the market, I NEED to use some programs like Netscape,
- Photoshop or PageMill that simply aren't available on the Amiga, still,
- I'd rather do graphics on paper with crayolas than give up Scala, Dpaint,
- LightWave, ADPro!!!
- Again, like many here I've waited for years for the stabilization of the
- market. I upgraded my A500 little by little, then that little "toy
- computer" helped me start earning money doing what I really liked to do,
- then sold it and bought a 4000. I waited on getting a '060 board until
- ESCOM got its act together. Bought as many software as my needs dictated
- and budget allowed. Kept holding the grail of a PowerAmiga in front of my
- face when times seemed bad. Fought the visions of Macs and GatesBoxes
- getting faster and more powerful by the day, all the while fearing what
- would happen to my Amiga-based bussines should my A4000s go into the blink
- and can't find repair pieces. The few moments of joy, when the Amiga's
- power-price relation is evident and even monster PC/Mac systems can't do
- what my 4000 (or even my A500!) has been doing for years, have been the
- only things that kept me going... but now, even the other 'bad guys',
- Apple, are struggling for survival! Will I have to dump my last ideals
- (that 'good stuff' (Amiga) wins in the end) and buy my GatesBox if I want
- to survive into the 21st century...?????
-
- Sorry if this noise is too depressing, but what the heck, it's end of the
- millenia, I'm allowed a rant I guess...
-
- Last thing: Whoever has the Amiga technology now, PLEASE, do what you feel
- is best, but don't keep people on false hopes. Good luck anyway. We're all
- going to need it...
